I believe that the purpose of education is to aid the development of students to become:
· Successful learners who are innovative and resourceful, and are able to solve problems in ways that draw upon a range of learning areas and disciplines.
· Confident and creative individuals that have a sense of self-worth, self-awareness and personal identity that enables them to manage their emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing.
· Active and informed citizens who appreciate Australia’s social, cultural, linguistic and religious diversity, and have an understanding of Australia’s system of government, history and culture.
My Teaching Philosophy is influenced by the work of David Kolb, whose experiential learning theory explores and builds upon the previous works of Dewy and Levin. Kolb’s experiential theory proposes that “learning is a process where knowledge is created through the transformation of experiences” (Kolb, 1984, p.38).
